All my thoughts come back around to “not fair” lately. Our friend, Liz, my husband’s coworker has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. Several lymph nodes are also involved. She’s just 45, artistic, kind, hard working, loves animals and has the thickest curliest black hair (which really wouldn’t be a detail to include except for the fact that she has to endure 2 rounds of chemotherapy).
I’m praying really hard for her and I have a hard time with the “bad things happen to good people” concept. My logical mind wants some kind of reason, purpose for this nightmare. All of the treatments seem barbaric at best and I can’t fathom why we haven’t come farther with beating this disease. So, all my thoughts seem to go right back to the sadness of this situation: how it’s not fair. Cancer is not fair, not picky, not discriminatory and I HATE it.
Day 1 - Your favorite song: Badlands-Bruce Springsteen
The Singer Songwriter
I’ve come to the conclusion that I prefer the singer/songwriter. I’ve never watched a full episode of American Idol probably for that reason. After all, don’t you think a person is more passionate and invested in something she calls her own. Some of my favorites:Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Jesse Malin, Jack Johnson, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Corrine Bailely Rae, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, David Gray, Steve Winwood, Warren Zevon. Not many women, we should remedy that.
